Good move to bring Iggy back, especially on a 1-year deal. Headed into the offseason, I thought the odds of AA bringing Ozuna back were very low. I’m starting to rethink. Has AA been asked or do we have an update on the details of Marcel’s hip surgery and recovery? Does Braves leadership think the injury was the main cause of his 2025 decline in production?
The more I look at the numbers, the more I think Dubon is our starting SS.
$16M for Iggy, $7 for Dubon (estimate), $20M for a SP, $15M for the bullpen, $5M for a bat/4th OF, $5M to fill out the bench, $10M to spend in season/at deadline.
Do you think they'll spend more than that? Maybe they get creative in the trade market again.
Yeah, one of my standing observations I've tried to write and podcast about is that they need to make a good trade deal, because it's hard to fill every need in FA.
Your description of a good use for Dubon as a utility guy to insert when Albies and Riley get hurt (as they will) is spot on, and that is a great roster use for him. Taking away at-bats from the Zack Shorts (career OPS+ of 58) of the world can only be a good thing.
But wasn't that what Nacho Alvarez was supposed to do? If Dubon gets the first call for an off-day/period for Albies and Riley, how does Alvarez ever get in the line-up? Maybe the plan is that he will not get in the line-up?
I think Alvarez doesn't get called up until someone goes on the injured list. Dubon gets the occasional off day for a guy or first shot to replace an injury, and Nacho plays everyday in Gwinnett until that happens
Nacho's value is tied to 3B, IMO. He's a negative value guy at 2B and simply can't play SS. His bat is super light, too. I think they should trade him to a team with a need at 3B, if he has any value.
