Does the stats take into account the defensive shift that teams employ against our hitters? Or is that something which normalises as well, because every team runs different defensive alignments? Is luck purely the defining factor here on CHOP outs?
Expected batting average explicitly removes the defense from the equation, just based on all other identical batted balls (that may or may not be shifted/positioned the same). Definitely something to think about there - I wonder if there's a way for me to go in and play with that?
It amazes me how many things are tracked stat wise that I wouldn’t be surprised if defensive shift metrics were tracked, but then again it could involve viewing a lot of game footage

You can use computer vision programming to track the players, but I think a lot of the detailed shift stuff is internal to teams and not public
