We'll ask CJ to put in a good word. Maybe he'll give a recommendation, share your Newsletter, and tell him that numbers and patterns come to you in your cereal every morning.
Good stuff, novel way of looking at the bullpen. Regardless of analytics, I still don't see how AA hangs on to Bummer and scraps Kinley (will he try to resign him ? I would not be surprised to see another team grab him first.)
It's likely a bit of cover for the volatility - you can be absolved of responsibility if you sign a high-priced reliever and he's not good for you. Who is taking more blame for their bad bullpen last year, AA with the Braves (who filled his with minor league deals) or Andrew Friedman of the Dodgers (who paid Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott)?
Why did the Braves not keep Kirby (2 years ago) at 4.5 again? (Sorry) Uggh yeah don't pay for the madness and then don't not pay for the madness. Seems like Braves fans need to be angry--I wonder "how much better" the pen will be without Snits pen choices. It would almost be worth it to bring back the same pen in entirety just to see...all of them the entire 60 different pen arms the Braves recycled though....no? Fine. Honest question: on a scale of 1-10 how well did the Braves do in hiring supporting coaches this off season?
Yeah, not picking up that club option was, in retrospect, a missed opportunity for AA. I assumed as a former closer that Kirby would have been valued as that emergency save option and they declined the option.
Continue this trend of newsletters and you will get hired by AA.
See, we say that but offers are going out right now and no one's even reached out to me yet.

Great article—good work.
I’m convinced. But I will say that AA no doubt knows this—he has to!—but overpays anyway. So do the other top FOs in MLB—LAD, PHI, SD, NYY, etc.
Why? I have to assume there is some kind of ‘why’ that makes some sense. Relievers are worth more to MLB FOs than the analytics appear to suggest.
