Good discussion. I had forgotten about the Pederson/Grichuk tandem in Arizona. I guess I could accept a Baldwin/Murphy tandem in Atlanta but I'm not confident that the 'real' Murphy now is any more than a .210 hitter even against lefties. I'd be willing to let Weiss sort out the DH issue later if we could land a high quality SP and a proven bullpen piece.
I also don't want to count on the catchers manning DH when we consider that Murphy's going to be rehabbing the hip surgery and might not even be ready for Opening Day. Would feel comfortable bringing in someone else to help out at DH and the OF corners
Totally understand what you mean. Problem is, we're playing whack-a-mole here. We need a DH, another OF who can hit, a SS, a good SP, and bullpen help. My feeling, and I realize not everyone would agree with me, is the pitching will turn out to be the biggest issue because not all 5 injured guys are going to be contributing all season. I guess the second priority would be SS. As much as I'd like to fill all the holes this winter, I don't think AA has the backing of McGuirk to do that.
Yeah, I think nailing some key trades will be needed to fill *every* hole, or else we're going to need to cut a corner somewhere (like SS with Dubón playing it every day)
