Michael King, Freddy Peralta or Jacob deGrom could give Atlanta the October running mate it needs for Chris Sale. The trade-off is everything that comes after.
Not much talk about Mahle. He exceeded all expectations, including shut down innings in the post season. Why would the Braves not make him a high priority? Of course, they would still need another proven SP. Shwellenbach would be the one arm amongst the 'walking wounded' that, to me, could be an ace but for now he's a big question mark, not unlike the rest in that group.
His projection is a 1 year, $20 million deal. That's too much for him, IMO, particularly if it keeps you from signing a better pitcher like Sonny Gray or Kevin Gausman. I also fully expect Mahle to regress to his mean.
Lindsay, do any of these projection platforms, like Spotrac, publish an annual “How did we do?” edition where the previous year’s projections are reconciled against actual statistical outcomes? Would love to see it. -Bob Schoen.
What concerns me is the last part of the title of this post “Trust the rest.” You could replace that phrase with one word “Hope” which as we know is not a plan. So much unfortunately depends on Riley which seems to be a yearly mantra!
Hard NO to this approach. Here’s one point to consider: The average starter in this season’s playoffs went 4.17 innings (less than 50% of the outs) and the Brewers SPs averaged under 4 IP.

BA named the likeliest Braves roster in 2030.
They had Didier as #1 starter, Caminiti as #2
