Wow - I'm glad you understand most of this - I don't have a business background but your article creates a much better understanding of how complex the business of running the Braves is. Perhaps I have been too strident in my criticism of McGuirk's stopping AA from acquiring a few good FA's last year. The picture you paint clarifies why the Braves can't compete with Dodgers , Yankees, or Padres for super-star FA's. We Braves' fans have to accept AA's obvious philosophy: "We'll do our best to get into the playoffs and then rely on randomness (luck) to go deeper". Financially, the Braves are a mid-level franchise similar, it seems to me, to the Brewers. We have to be thankful that we have a first place team (at the moment) and hope for the best.
