Another day, another piece of bad news. I had 3 thoughts: 1. We’re going to find out very quickly how this team handles adversity under Weiss’ leadership. 2. Other teams are dealing with SP injuries as well - Blue Jays, Reds, Giants, Padres, and others. This is a chronic issue in baseball and will impact just about every team. Braves are an extreme case, but have to be prepared to deal with it. 3. Getting minor leaguers ready to cover big league innings is the only reasonable answer. Use the young guys.

My father used to say, "When you're up to your fanny in alligators, it doesn't matter that you went in to drain the swamp. It only matters that you're up to your fanny in alligators" which is my way of saying at this point it doesn't matter what AA did or didn't do or should have done in the offseason, it only matters what he and the Braves do from here.

As Lindsay has covered, signing Giolito at this point won't solve anything except give you some depth when the next pitching injury occurs. He will likely need 4-6 weeks in Gwinnett building up arm strength and getting stretched out. He won't be ready until Strider is ready to come off the IL.

I'd rather see JR Ritchie make those starts than Perez, Suarez or Carrasco. While I think Fuentes has the higher ceiling, I think Ritchie's pitch mix is more likely to get through a line up more than once.

I'm still looking forward to opening day, but this was a kick in the gonads, no doubt about it.

I'm in the same boat you are as far as Giolito. I say give it to Richie over Perez or Carrasco.

Also, I'm as Southern as they come and that is a brand new saying for me, so I'm making a note of that

I have a problem with AA on many fronts, but I give him credit (so far) for not signing Gioilito just to say, "See, I signed an FA pitcher".
