With a lockout looming & LA's World Series win showing us the value of starting pitching, several teams have been aggressive this offseason at grabbing quality arms. Could the Atlanta Braves be next?
Thanks for the excellent analysis. Some really good pitchers have signed, but when I look at the deals - with the exception of Pagan and Iggy - I’m glad they weren’t done by the Braves. Based on the market, the best approach would be a 1-2 year under $20 million AAV for an established starter (Merrill Kelly?). Keep drafting, developing and promoting the arms in the system.
Great analysis of arm-slot angle and the splitter - Yesavage takes full advantage of his over-the top angle - Imai can't, at basically sidearm. I also question his longevity at 154lbs - big difference between a fairly skinny guy at 175 and a wisp at 154. Still, I would applaud any real AA effort to get a stud SP
Braves will pick #26 for Drake Baldwin award . Definitely
Right now their 2nd round pick is tentatively #46.
The draft lottery on December 9 will determine where their First Round pick is.
International signees will be announced January 15. There are no idiot $5 million dollar overpays this year. The top signee this year is $2 million or less. Dominican shortstop with size, 6'2" , bat, and defensive chops to stay at shortstop. Per Baseball American.
