Lindsay, again I think you nailed it. And, Mark, again we made a 5+ ERA pitcher into a Cy Young candidate. I agree with Bruce's sentiment that there are way too many "holes" to fill. Jimmy Baseball and only two other hits? HITS??? The Braves are too inconsistent, at best, to even GET to the post-season.
And, although Ozzie is the ONLY one that can climb the ladder, brings his sand wedge to every at-bat, never saw a fast ball in ANY location he didn't like, don't we believe he'd be more successful with just a tidge of discipline?
Ozzie has had some big hits, but far too many bad AB's in big moments with runners in scoring position. I don't like seeing him in the middle of the lineup.
It is amazing that Atlanta’s pitchers turn sub .200 batters into .320 hitters and Atlanta’s offense can turn 5.0 era pitchers into 2.0 era John Smoltz and it usually happens in the same game.
It blows my mind how they let Walker Buehler cruise like that. I know his ERA estimators (mid-4s) paint a rosier picture than his actual ERA (five and change), but to get two-hit by that guy? Yikes.
Seems they do this at least once in every series. At the start of the year it was once every couple of weeks. I think that’s the difference in their record since June 1st.
Agree with the other commenters...You can not live with less than 5 innings from your starter like the Braves are having to do too many nights. Anyone who says they are confident in our starter on a non-Sale start is either lying or delusional.
The offense is way too inconsistent. I do think that should get better Ronald and Sean Murphy get back. (I know the Murphy hate is strong, but he is a good defensive catcher, calls a good game and has historically hit left handed pitching really well.)
I didn't think Ritchie was too bad last night. I think he ran out of gas a little bit in the top of the 8th when he went walk, Tatis nuke, walk. At this point, I think it's clear he is A guy. He isn't THE guy.
I am writing Waldrep off at this point. Even if it's not a season ending TJ, if you have to shut him down for any significant time, there won't be enough time left in the season for him to ramp back up and be a starter. Could he help in the bullpen? Maybe. But I'm not counting on it.
Hope AJSS comes back soon and is the #2 or #3 starter behind Sale.
AA simply has to address the rotation before the deadline. I don't want to hear about the labor pains, just show me the baby (front of the rotation starter)!!!
Other than Sale, our previously 'good' SP's are all below average, like Lopez tonight. AA may make a legitimate attempt to trade for a stud, but what has AA got to offer? Waldrep (who a year ago was the best of the young guns) is hurt again. Ritchie and Murphy may still be legitimate prospects but backend rotation guys at best and neither is ready to be much help for a while. I don't envy AA trying to put together a package that would land a playoff caliber SP (let alone adding a good arm to the pen). I wish you the best, Alex
