Innings. Bring in Fuentes at the beginning of an inning and start stretching him out and give him experience navigating through a lineup. Use the organizational pitching depth. Don’t focus on a 5 man rotation. Look around the league - 3 teams used an opener last night, including the Dodgers and Phillies. And last night was an abbreviated schedule. The “AA get 2 proven starters at the deadline” crowd are dreaming. Start figuring it out with what you have. The Jays came within a whisker of winning the WS with a pitcher that started the season as a barely in the top 100 prospect list, had 19 innings of major league experience before the playoffs and started 2 WS games.
It seems that the Atlanta offense went from #1 to creating almost every starter thereafter look like a Cy Young winner.
