Great game except for watching Holmes again struggle after four innings. I agree, he needs to be relegated to one or two innings in relief.

The highlight for me was Riley's hard-hit singe up the middle driving in two runners. How many times this year has he produced a pop-up or strikeout in that situation? The number is very large. Hopefully he can build on this.

Holmes has obvious limitations, but I struggle to recall a pitcher on track to throw 150 innings with a 3.70 ERA that has taken more flak. I’ll take those results all day long. A staff that has 5 guys throwing 150 innings of sub 4.00 ERA doesn’t exist in today’s game.

You're not wrong that Holmes gets treated unfairly by the fanbase, but I do also think that his ERA estimators all hovering near the mid-to-high 4s also indicate that he's been a bit lucky and that what he's doing in the rotation hasn't been sustainable.

From a fWAR perspective, his most valuable year was actually that "utility pitcher" 2024 season - 1.2 fWAR, to 0.9 fWAR last year (despite 46.2 more innings), and just 0.3 fWAR this year)

Yes, indeed. Seeing our best natural hitter rule this weekend was fun. Watching Riley be Riley again is so, so promising.

But another "bonehead" play today cost us another run. Jimmy Baseball didn't know there was only one out and botched the "made to order" double play. Running into each other. Not knowing how many outs there are. These are Little League no-nos, guys!

I like Jarvis but today was not good: an error on a fairly routine grounder and not getting an out, forgetting how many outs there were and blowing a DP, and striking out watching a center cut fast ball. I' sure he won't sleep well tonight.

And it's a rough coincidence that he did that just a few hours after AA went on MLB Network Radio and said that Jarvis will get some extended run as the everyday guy at short.

Really? One day doth not a new "starter" make. I like the idea of Jimmy being "the man" going forward. But what will we do with Kim? (I know what I would want, but I'm talking "legally")
