The roster wasn't optimal for what he wants to do, but some of the additions like Profar, Kim, even Allen (as much as he could be) are nice compliments to the slug of an Olson, Riley, etc.
William you could be right. One thing you might want to consider. (Not this year but,...) The Braves’ minor-league system has consistently produced Major League talent—top-five in converting prospects into MLB wins when you factor in both call-ups and players used in trades. That’s the real purpose of a farm system: not a ranking, but a pipeline of impact players for the big-league club.
The organization also endured some of the harshest sanctions MLB has ever handed down. For context, the Dodgers once had an internal spreadsheet literally titled “Illegal stuff we are doing in Latin America,” and MLB took no action. A year before the Braves were penalized, the Red Sox were caught for essentially the same violations and faced minimal consequences.
So while the farm system’s current “ranking” might look modest, the underlying talent and results are much stronger than those numbers suggest.
I agree with much of what you said, but other than the Grissom/Sale trade, I'm not too sure how many other AA moves have resulted in fleecing someone. Kinley looks like a keeper but not retaining Swanson, Contreras, and Laureano seem like big mistakes.
True, but sometimes I wonder how good is Atlanta's scouting department? Alvin Dark, when he was managing the Giants, said, "If you pay your scouts chicken feed, you'll have turkeys on your infield".
I'm just a 72 year old idiot FAN(atic).
But i hope Coach Hyer doesn't take the fall for a disappointing season. Let him and his theories have another year.
The problem with most baseball fans they are painfully ignorant of their minor league operations.
It's been obvious for several years the Braves had a bottom 5 farm system as ranked by Baseball America, Bleacher Report, etc.
We just hoped Ownership would provide the money and A.A. would keep fleecing the othet teams in lopsided trades so we never fell out of contention.
I agree; Hyers needs another year.

Laureano is the most frustrating one, as that wasn't money, it was just wanting to swing higher than what they thought he was.
In their defense, though, almost no one thought he's actually improve on his post-DFA stats from last year.

Any word on why Dysabel is on the restricted list?
I've asked around and don't know for sure. I don't believe it's disciplinary, but haven't confirmed that
