Weiss’ post game comments talked about Dodd’s performance and particularly the improvement in his slider. Do you think Dodd could become the guy that handles left-handed hitters to become the second lefty in the pen behind Lee? If so, is that one less roster improvement the team needs as we head towards the trade deadline?
He's had reverse splits every since he moved to relief, but let me dive into it a little bit. Would be really convenient if he could get some lefties out
"Let me repeat that: MATTHEW KENT OLSON STOLE A BASE."
And let's not forget that absolute Howitzer of a relay throw to gun down Cruz at the plate!
A lot of people don't remember during his senior season at Parkview HS in 2012, he posted an outstanding 12-1 record on the mound with a 1.65 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 85 innings. Matt is not some noodle-armed first baseman. He has got a HOSE! And that was a big run to keep off the board yesterday.
More not-easy-to-answer questions for the trade deadline. Should Braves acquire a front of the rotation starter? The straight-forward answer is “absolutely”. But I don’t think it will be that easy. Probably only 2 (Skubal & Webb), maybe 3 (Ryan) options that are reliable front of rotation guys. All the other names I see talked about have at least as many “ifs” as Strider. And it’s not clear if any of those 3 will be available. In addition, competition will be intense with teams that realistically are perceived to have better near-MLB ready prospects. So… the question: Should Braves start auditioning and preparing Fuentes to be a starter by year-end and into the playoffs? I think he has the stuff and I think of the Yesavage example for the Blue Jays from last year. (I’m a big believer in the grass isn’t always greener when it comes to trades).
Good point, but another issue this season is the incredible mediocrity in the AL. Is any team in the AL (besides the Angels) willing to sell? The Rangers are in the playoffs as of today with .484 winning %. Braves chances of having another top end starter by playoffs seem at least as likely from within the org (Strider, Hurst, Schwellenbach) as a trade. And can we increase the odds by figuring out if Fuentes can be ready?
There are "uppers" and "downers" in every game, but, Lindsay, you hit one of my two downers in a game with so many uppers! When will we have Schwellenbach and Waldrip back? Maybe Spencer will never come fully back after 2 elbow surgeries. So sad for him. His results are only tolerable because of our offense.

I think if the Rangers keep sliding, Jacob DeGrom could potentially become available. But yeah, trades aren't always a guarantee.

Maybe they do need a near-ready College pitcher at #9.
