Yes, Bryce should have picked up the bunt and put it in his back pocket. Yes, Ronald should have been moving to back up the play BEFORE the overthrow occurred... But I would argue that scoring only 1 run is what doomed Atlanta.
I know it's only 9 games, but Ronald is hitting .161 with a .194 SLG. Riley is hitting .188 with a .219 SLG. That will simply not get it done.
I tried to use AI to find out the winning % in MLB in 2025 when a team only allowed 2 runs and this is what I got:
(approximate MLB norms)
Allow ≤1 run: ~85–90% win rate
Allow ≤2 runs: ~77–80%
Allow ≤3 runs: ~65–70%
I honestly thought the win rate for allowing two runs (or less) would have been higher than 80%. So I guess we were the one out of five that lost while allowing only two runs last night.
Excellent point about Acuna's defense. There are few high school coaches who wouldn't have been irate with his lack of hustle. Talented athlete but when his lack of hitting is combined with lack of hustle it's difficult to overlook.
Need a ruling from you Lindsay…How many games does Elder have to pitch before those of us who wanted Elder on the staff can tell the “we have to sign Bassett (or name your FA pitcher)” crowd they have to admit AA was right and they were wrong? IF Braves starters get healthy and IF prospects continue to demonstrate they are big league starters, this staff will be 10+ deep with quality SPs. It’s early and those are big IFs, but Braves front office has been very smart about how they’ve built this staff.
I genuinely don't think that those folks will ever admit it, but I'd argue that once he moves past a half-season of this type of performance, it's hard to admit that it's a random variance-fueled heater (like a lot of folks use to dismiss his 2023 All-Star nod).
"But Costly Error Dooms Atlanta..."

On to Sunday! Go Braves!!
