The only thing BETTER than IL'ing ReLo AFTER his start would have been IL'ing ReLo BEFORE his start! Job #1 for a starting pitcher is GIVE YOUR TEAM A CHANCE. ReLo didn't do that last night. He has not done that since he's come back. Enough already! Hope is not a strategy or a plan!!
I don't know if he's washed for good...but I don't want to see him on the roster or on the mound for the rest of this season. Give Owen Murphy or JR Ritchie a shot. They can't possibly be worse than ReLo.
Baseball is a listed as "entertainment". And, it is a "business." If the business of baseball is losing money (which I hear the Braves are at the baseball level) and the entertainment value - admittedly predicated on winning, not losing - is as cheesy as last night, I'd recommend a turnaround professional!
So the braves who are about to win the east even though 4 opening day starters dropped out due to injuries at spring when no one else is available. Line up the sillies or any team outside of doyers (who have 8 No 1 starters) and no one could have realistically done what the Braves have done. But the Braves did lose a game last night so a turn around professional is needed? Even the best team on record who won over 115 games lost 40 something games. The Braves may be losing money at the baseball level due to spending it on the team. If the Braves operated/spent money like the pirates they would have made more money, but you would not be as entertained. As ole Russel Crow wants to know, "Are you not entertained?"
You're right, Ozzie. It will be the Dodgers again this year no matter what we do. But Lindsay gives us a chance on this thread to say what we think as Braves fans like me so far back I remember being upset when the Braves traded Joe Torre to St. Louis and the VERY NEXT YEAR he was the NL MVP! You know I played a lot of ball and don't remember being as emotional about it as I am now. I'm just a walker-with-flourescent-tennis-balls living vicariously through my hometown Atlanta Braves.
Michael, I appreciate that. I believe that passion and deep love for the Braves is something we all share. It’s a blessing to be a Braves fan, even on the nights when they make us question our sanity!
But let me clear up one thing: I’m definitely not handing the Dodgers the World Series trophy. My point was about pitching depth, not destiny. When you seem to have eight No. 1 starters, you’re better equipped to survive losing four of your five projected Opening Day starters. That doesn’t make you unbeatable, and I’m certainly not conceding anything to them in September.
My pushback was on the “turnaround professional” diagnosis—not your right to be frustrated by an ugly game. Looking at what the Braves have had to overcome, I think the people running this team deserve some credit. We can hate what happened last night without losing sight of the bigger picture.
And yes, that Torre trade stunk! Then having him come back as manager, take us to the playoffs, and eventually get fired—that was very 1980s Braves. This team has certainly given longtime fans plenty to celebrate and plenty to shake their heads about.
Please keep using this beautiful place Lindsay has created to speak your truth. Being able to share the joy, frustration, memories, and disagreements with people who care about the same team is part of what makes it special. We don’t have to see every game the same way to appreciate that we’re rooting for the same thing.
And as for the walker—keep burning those tennis balls, Michael! We all live vicariously through this team. Here’s hoping we’re both getting far too emotional about Braves wins in October.
The guys are tired and this game never looked good. Lets see what Perez can do outside of Atl and see what JR has after his 15k 6.1 start last week. The day off Thursday is big. The pen have the day off mostly is big for this series, especially with JR starting on Wedensday. 11 games left is very excieting.
Even Weiss has to see Albies at clean up is good news for the opposing team. Jocularity doesn't drive in runs.

Amen, brother.
