Have to give credit to Weiss for holding this team together in June and getting them turned around. Weiss was a good choice by AA. And speaking of AA and his “disastrous” trade deadline… the much-maligned SPs since the deadline… 51 IP in 9 games / 12 ER / 2.11 ERA / 43 SO / 16 BB. Not too shabby.
After the Draft, Baves signed an Arkansas baseball commit to a minor league contract. 6'3", 200 pound Shortstop. He was somethinhg like 380 on Mlb Pipelines prospect list.
I tip my hat to AA for acquiring Mahle - he really looks like the rotation addition the Braves needed. Not sure if he is the Playoff Game Two guy - but who else?
But not getting a strong addition for the pen (Weaver?) could really haunt for a long time.
Don't disagree... but Suarez coming back (not a guarantee, I know) and being another stud in the pen with Iggy, Lee, Fuentes and Dodd would make me feel a LOT better going into the post season.
Agree, but we've had so many disappointments with guys returning from the IL that I worry about Suarez. He was a huge part of the early success of the team and I give Weiss credit for making the best of what he's had to work with in the pen. To think that the Pirates got Weaver and the Braves apparently didn't even try bothers me.
Again, I agree with you. After reading Lindsay's article, I can *understand* why AA didn't really go after any SP's once they struck out on Skubal and deGrom, but it absolutely does not excuse him for not getting one or two high velo/high spin swing and miss arms for the bullpen at the TDL.
Brent Suter has value as the "lefty ground ball multi-inning guy", but he is not the guy I want go get out Harper, Schwarber or Ohtani.

Pittsburgh gave up a top 10 prospect for Weaver.
Those Revenue receiving teams all have deep farm systems cause MLB gives them extra picks and money.
