Welcome to Braves Today

There has never been more Braves coverage than there is today.

There has also never been more noise.

Every day brings another “trade proposal,” another rumor built around anonymous speculation, another story that exists because someone needed to publish something before lunch so that they could get some cheap clicks on programmatic ad delivery.

That’s not why I started Braves Today.

I started this site because I wanted the kind of Braves coverage I wanted to read myself: reporting that values context over hot takes, analysis over outrage, and curiosity over clicks.

Sometimes that means breaking down why Walt Weiss made a bullpen decision. Sometimes it means diving into the biomechanics behind a pitching prospect’s new delivery. Sometimes it means spending 2,000 words explaining the MLB Draft, roster construction, or why a seemingly small front-office move could matter six months from now.

If something is interesting, we’re going to explain it—not just tell you what happened.

You’ll still find game coverage here. You’ll still get takeaways after every Braves game and coverage of the biggest news surrounding the organization.

But this isn’t built to chase the news cycle.

It’s built to help you understand the Braves a little better than you did yesterday.

Braves Today exists because I wanted the freedom to write that way.

After spending time covering the team through larger media companies like Sports Illustrated and Athlon Sports, I realized the kind of coverage I cared most about wasn’t always the kind that fit a pageview-driven business model. I’d rather publish one story that teaches you something than five stories you’ll forget tomorrow.

So that’s what we’re doing.

I’m incredibly fortunate that this work has taken me from watching the Braves on TBS as a kid to covering the team as credentialed media today. I grew up listening to Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren, wore No. 3 because of Dale Murphy, and spent countless afternoons trying—and failing—to throw like Tom Glavine.

Now I get to ask questions in press conferences, host live pre- and post-game shows, and tell stories about the team I’ve loved my entire life.

That’s something I’ll never take for granted.

Whether you’ve been reading since day one or just found Braves Today this morning, thank you for being here.

I hope you’ll stick around.

This is Braves Today.

The box score tells you what happened. We dig into why.
