One of your better pieces, and that's saying something.
As the compute-to-display interval for ABS reduces to an instant, hand held ump advisory (or fully determinative) version, does framing go the way of 8-tracks and Betamax?
I think as long as it's still the challenge system, then framing still has an important role. If it's the full ABS, which all stakeholders have indicated that they don't want to do, it's a tougher lift.
But even on ABS challenges, I think you'll start to see the best framers have lower success rates on challenges against them - in essence, fooling the batters/pitchers as well as the ump. We don't have a large enough sample size yet for that to bear out in the numbers, but anecdotally I've seen some of it already.
Never heard this before. Continuing to learn new things about baseball thanks to you.

Awesome newsletter, Lindsay! Great piece to recognize Flowers impact in today's game.
Good info I was not aware of. I'm glad Flowers is still with the Braves. Are they taking advantage of his experience and knowledge?
And I reckon ABS is making pitch framing a bit less effective?
On ABS:
