Another 3-2 game. Why get a seasoned starter when we can't score more than 2-3 runs/game? Why not play Mateo at SS against lefties? Why not play Mateo at 3rd? Or, go after a big right handed bat that can play 3rd/left field and allow Dubon to "float"? What did you think of AJ today? I think we need to see another outing or two prior to pencil him in as #2 SP.

I know I may be in a minority here, but I do not want to "break the bank" for two months of Skubal.

As cool as it would be, I agree

We've got money and we've got prospects that we have not always had at the TDL to make deals.

I think that today's outing is enough to show it isn't that he isn't ready. I also don't know it's enough to decide if he's THE guy (SP2 behind Sale) or he is A guy (#3 starter in the playoffs with a quick hook to ReLo or Holmes.

Make no mistake, I absolutely want AA to "go for it" at the trade deadline. But if we're going to break the bank, I want to spend it on an SP2 that comes with (at least) one additional year of control and a bat and a swing and miss guy for the pen who can get out left handed batters.

I believe 1 impact starter is enough because I believe a combination of Grant Holmes/Perez/Lopez would be a very good 3rd starter. So happy for AJ and Braves fans.

I believe asking the same person who BOUGHT our last RHP "answer" who (i) bought a 35-year-old version of a .234 lifetime hitter whose defense, arm and speed are of no consequence - AND PAID HIM $11.5MM/YEAR, and (ii) and prior to that bought a guy who is addicted to some performance juice, all while (iii) he had the best answer in house at $900k/yr (which would have saved $10MM for an impact starter) is like forgiving your wife TWICE for infidelity with the town drunk. You have bigger problems with Riley. Sean Murphy's last three years tell you he is broke beyond repair. Can't even hit .200 for THREE YEARS, and you list him as an "answer"?

I mean, I did point out that in that specific playing-time situation (vs LHP), Murphy's well outperformed that batting average, but I totally understand the hesitation here. I don't think he can be enough on his own, hence why I listed names and asked them to bring in help like a Lane Thomas or Taylor Ward

I understand your desire for Murphy. I'm just saying to look at the past 2-1/2 years and tell me if you see anything but liability and an "IR" just looking for a place to happen? You would give away Joey Bart like we did Trumball and Heim "looking anxiously forward" to when the catching Messiah returns?? No way.

I do not think the right-handed hitter is a big deal because of Dubon. Besides, you've got the $22MM/year man coming back from the right side of the plate on Aug 3: Kim Basinger! He will shore up that right handed hitting! The Braves bet $22MM/year on that already. Therefore, I think just 1 impact starter required. Cool if it could be Tarik. Give em Murphy, Yaz, Kim, et al!

I've specifically said we need to keep Bart when Murphy comes back, actually. I'd rather DFA Dom Smith than get rid of Bart

Amen!!! I just assumed AA would get rid of Bart like he's done Heim, Trumball, etc. I'm just tired of relying on Murphy for anything. 2-1/2 years of disappointment. Riley is only 3 or 4 months. Although puzzled, you can understand sticking with Riley (i.e., not trading him off). It would be nice if WW would give us a day or two break from Riley's strike outs and rally killing.
