Excellent, detailed article. I don't doubt Riley's spiral is multifactorial. So Chipper apparently spent some time with Riley in the cage last week. On Saturday he hit his first HR in many weeks TO RIGHT FIELD. Chipper has long championed going uo the middle or to the opposite field. And yet Riley still frequently flies open with his left shoulder and misses a low and away slider by two feet. When you watch guys like Dubon and Freeman, it is clear to even an amateur like myself that they are keeping their lead shoulder in and trying to stroke the ball to the opposite field. Why is that so hard for Riley to remember?
Excellent analysis. Every Braves fan is pulling for Riley to return to an All-Star caliber player. The organization is in a difficult spot. Many of the deals the team has done and issues they’ve tried to address primarily come from having to fill a 5 WAR expectation deficit. Inevitably the organization had to increase their risk tolerance on deals to plug the hole created by Riley’s performance. The situation eventually has to be addressed.
The abdominal procedure and recovery insights paint a gloomy picture. Sad about Mike Brumley. He needs an outlet besides baseball so he’s not consumed with his spiral.
Riley is one of my favorite players and I truly hope he turns it around. He always takes accountability for his struggles and gives wonderful insight into both his swing mechanics and approach. He seems to be a very cerebral player and I worry that time off would only allow him to get further into his own head. It seems every other option has been exhasuted so hopefully time off will provide both a mental and physical reset. Let's go Braves!
Lindsay, I believe rest is imperative if you WANT TO KEEP RILEY. Austin replaying failure after failure, 1 success then 4 failure will ultimately claim him and he will leave the game much younger than anyone would want. But don't continue a downward spiral; Austin may reach that point of no return.

Jorwin Pulido, the 17 year Venezuelan catcher for the the DSL Braves, hit so well that he premiered for FCL Braves today. Went 1 for 3.
BeisbolFR reported in January Pulido received $ 350,000, he was very athletic, and could hit for average and power.
I think he only had 84 at bats in DSL before his promotion.
